Product Review: GuruNanda | Butter on Gums Pressure Sensor Electric Toothbrush 2.0

A closer look at GuruNanda’s Butter on Gums Pressure Sensor Electric Toothbrush 2.0 – from its design and feature set to how it fits into a daily routine shaped by real-world habits. Here’s what stands out, and who it’s really built for.

Guru Who?

The story of GuruNanda began at a personal turning point. Founder Puneet Nanda was inspired to rethink his approach to wellness after a serious stress-related health scare. This journey led him back to his roots in Ayurveda, an ancient system of holistic healing practiced in India, and that was part of his family’s background. Around this practice is where GuruNanda was born, supported by the idea that health is not just about treating symptoms, but about supporting the mind, body, and everyday habits that shape long-term well-being.

The brand is now positioned between traditional Eastern practices and modern science, where it seeks to combine natural ingredients and proven principles with sleek product design and clinical testimonials. But beyond that, GuruNanda emphasizes accessibility, where niche, high-end wellness tools can be integrated into everyday routines without the premium price point.

Rethinking Your Daily Routine

Whether I’d like to admit it or not, I found myself to be the perfect candidate to test and review the Butter on Gums Pressure Sensor Electric Toothbrush. Years of overbrushing have led to recession of my gums, particularly on my lower incisors. While a regular twice-a-day brusher, years of daily morning coffee as part of my morning routine have also led to some mild yellowing that I’ve never quite been able to improve. And yes, while I try to regularly floss, the task often gets away from me, and my gums are prone to bleeding when I do or brush too hard.

But I’m not alone here. Overbrushing, sensitive gums, and complicated oral care routines are par for the course for the majority of us. Some studies show that up to 50% of people brush with too much force, while about 70% of adults suffer from some degree of gingivitis.

GuruNanda’s Butter on Gums Electric Toothbrush is designed with those exact habits in mind, positioning itself less as a high-powered upgrade and more as a corrective tool for everyday brushing.

The Packaging

The packaging and overall branding ride that line between modern and sleek. The intricate mandala-inspired patterning is a notable nod to GuruNanda’s roots, and helps to ground the branding in something deeper while contrasting with a confidently contemporary focus. The teal and white feel fresh and clinical, and the product imagery gives it a premium feel. The overall look and level of information is thorough without feeling overwhelming, and as an artist, I respected the effort in confidently blending cultural identity with modern product design without verging into “costume-y” territory.

The Brush

There’s no doubt that this is a sleek toothbrush. Minimalistic design, glossy black finish, straightforward interface. And beyond the appearance, it’s built to last with the user in mind. Latex-free, BPA-free, and PFAS-free – no need to worry about harmful chemicals!

The detachable brush heads are super simple to replace, and feature GuruNanda’s patented Butter on Gums Softex bristles. This proprietary design helps gently remove plaque and debris without harming gums. Finally, the lithium-ion battery powering it all is able to hold a charge for up to 55 days. Not only that, but it is equipped with IPX7 waterproofing and easily charges with an included USB-C cable.

The Features

So there are 3 notable feature sections to this brush: the smart light-up pressure sensor, 3 vibration intensity settings, and 5 cleaning modes.

Light Up Pressure Sensor

This was arguably the feature I was the most excited for – my biggest issue with my oral routine is how hard I’ve always brushed. But after using this toothbrush, it made me realize just how much I needed to let up.

So, how it works is as soon as the brush senses you brushing with too much pressure, it will gently remind you via a flashing red light. If the high-pressure brushing continues, it will begin to alert you with stronger vibrations. While I’m still very much getting the hang of this, it’s helpful to get reminders to let the toothbrush do the work, and keep me in check when going over those higher-sensitivity areas.

Vibration Intensity Button

The silver button on the brush is how you can cycle the intensity of your brush head. Blue light is the Intense setting, Orange is medium, and Green is weak. This is a great feature to have when first starting out. The intense mode can be a bit much at first, and it was very ticklish on the gums. I found myself cycling these vibration settings as I brushed to get a few different waves of cleaning and taper off the intensity.

One thing I will say that was a bit confusing was that when I pressed through the indicators on the toothbrush, the order of lights is Blue/Green/Orange. It is strange and a bit confusing that the weaker setting (Green)  would cycle before the medium setting (Orange). When initially getting a feel for the brush, it would’ve made more sense to go from strongest to weakest vibration when pressing through.

Cleaning Modes

The 5 cleaning modes offered by the Butter on Gums Electric Toothbrush can be selected via the Power Button. These 5 modes are Cleanse, Gentle, Enhance, Shine, and Massage.

When first experimenting with the modes, feeling the changes in vibration intensity, patterns, and speed took some time to differentiate. However, after a few uses, you can really notice the adjustments that each setting offers.

And I’ll admit, playing with combinations of different intensities and functions was a lot of fun. Cleanse is your baseline mode, targeting an even clean. Gentle is almost as if you selected the Cleanse function but used the lowest vibration intensity. Enhance is the most aggressive – consistent in its motion, but with wider, more intentional vibrations. For Shine mode, it has a similar intensity to Enhance, but with a bit more noticeable back-and-forth motion that the other modes don’t have. I found the Massage mode to be similar to the Enhance setting if the vibration intensity was set to medium. That said, the vibrations also feel a bit broader – the movement isn’t as tight.

Through it all, a built-in 2-minute timer helps keep you on track for a thorough clean, and there’s even a memory function that remembers the last-used setting and auto-sets it for your next session.

Bonus: The Toothpaste

GuruNanda even sent along its nano-hydroxyapatite & White Turmeric sensitive toothpaste with our brush to help provide the full experience. This refreshing mint & clove-flavored toothpaste is made with an advanced clinical formula – 5% potassium nitrate to help relieve painful tooth sensitivity. Consistent use is meant to build increased protection over time and support a balanced, refreshing, and complete oral care experience.

For me, I enjoyed this more than I expected to. A lot of “sensitive” toothpastes have a strange texture and don’t leave my mouth tasting clean at all – this is very smooth and left none of that off-putting grit. As for the flavor, clove is known to be fairly intense in both flavor and aroma, but its warming, sweet-and-spicy profile works very well in this toothpaste. That said, I think for a lot of users it may be one of those “you love it or you hate it” flavor profiles. While it is noticeably milder than some of the mainstream brands, there is a unique sort of feel that my teeth have after using it that I’ve never experienced with other toothpastes. While it remains to be seen how it does long-term in guarding against common sensitivity triggers, I’ve always had a bit of a sensitivity to cold foods and am looking forward to seeing how it does with that discomfort over time.

Like with all GuruNanda products, this toothpaste is proudly made with care and quality. The formula is fluoride-free, cruelty-free, and made without harsh chemicals.

So Who Is This For?

Countless different brands on the market are targeting different things with their toothbrushes. What I appreciate about this brush is it really ticks a full spectrum of boxes. While clearly catered toward users wanting a “cleaner” experience free of chemicals and harmful additives, the toothbrush itself has a wide-ranging appeal. The Butter on Gums bristles are as-advertised and very easy on gums. The pressure indicator helps hard brushers to ease up, and the variety of brush modes allows for customizable settings that appeal to everybody, from first-time electric users to power users looking for more intensity.

While it may not have some of the top-tier premium functionalities that tech-heavy users love, like pairable apps and tracking features, it serves as a perfect gateway brush into those if it ever becomes something you want to explore further.

A Gentler Way Forward

At its core, the Butter on Gums Pressure Sensor Electric Toothbrush feels less like a dramatic overhaul of your routine and more like a quiet correction of it. There’s no overwhelming tech or overpromises of “intense cleaning” – instead, it leans into practicality. Work on brushing better, not harder. The combination of those butter on gums bristles, responsive pressure feedback, and customizable modes all help to create an experience that encourages consistency and awareness, especially for those of us like myself who have created less-than-perfect habits over time.

In short, I love how approachable this experience felt. Whether you’re easing into electric brushing for the first time or just trying to create a more refined routine without diving into a $200 toothbrush with app functionality and daily tracking, its identity is clear. Gentle, preventative care, with just enough flexibility with the built-in functions to satisfy users who want a little bit more flair.

To conclude, I recommend not to sleep on this brush. Its affordability, thoughtful design, and focus around long-term oral health provide you with all you need for the next step in creating better brushing habits. I want to end by thanking GuruNanda for providing Mantelligence the opportunity to feature and review this product. It truly reinforces the idea that effective oral care doesn’t have to come at the expense of comfort.
